Scary True Stories was a compendium of ghost stories released across three videotapes in 1991–1992. Each under one hour in length and shot for a minimal budget, they contained all the hallmarks of what we now call J-horror. Second Night in particular would have a major influence. The appearance of a ghostly woman in a red dress has been copied numerous times, notably by Kurosawa Kiyoshi in Pulse and Retribution.
