Art Robinson

BIOGRAPHY

Art Robinson was Westgate Speedway’s inaugural 6-Cylinder feature champion when it opened in 1967, and remained so for 1968, 1969, and 1970 plus became a Diamond feature champion in 1970. Notably on July 10, 1974, "The Canadian Statesman" in Bowmanville reported: "The first indefinite suspension was handed out to driver Art Robinson of Whitby, when he started using his fists on another driver after a mishap at the conclusion of the Diamond Class Division involving three cars." Eventually, hot-headed Art decided to become Westgate Speedway's owner in 1976. He continued racing in his 01 car as an owner-promoter. Canadian stunt performer Ken Carter had his untimely demise at Westgate Speedway in the fall of 1983. Westgate Speedway was renamed Peterborough Speedway (1988-present) aka Canada's Toughest 1/3 Mile Oval.
