Olavo Fernandes

Graduated in Cinema from Mato Grosso´s Federal University, Olavo Fernandes works in audio-visual since 2017. Acting mostly as film editor, filmmaker, producer, and writer. By now, directed four short films. “Chimeric Desire to Belong to Another World”, from 2020 (“Best shorty short”, at 19ª Mostra de Audiovisual Universitário e Independente da América Latina). “The Untamed Uprising of the Killer Strawberries”, of 2022 (Best Mato Grossense Short Film and Best Direction in Short Film in the 21° Cinemato; Best Film Editing at Moscow Indie Film Festival; Finalist at All That Moves; Honorable Mention on WideScreen Film & Music Video Festival). “Estelar”, his Cinema graduation final paper in 2024 (Finalist in Prêmio Orlando Senna). And “Rosimeire´s Baby”, scheduled to premiere in 24ª Mostra de Audiovisual Universitário e Independente da América Latina, in september 2025. Olavo also worked as camera operator, director of photography and original soundtrack composing in various productions. Usually, his personal works approach genre stories with acid humor, always putting the focus on character study through the audio and visual language. He is currently producing his fifth short film.
