Having no news for Mikimoto, Hansuke writes about his cat before noticing a homeless father and son.
4. The Bucolic Life
Two couples, Masuo and Mitsuyo, and Hatsutaro and Yoshie, accidentally trade homes and wives.

Shima-san comes to the settlement. Hansuke and his pals are suspicious of him.
6. A Home with a Pool
The homeless father and son talk about their ideal home, and the son goes about collecting food.

Katsuko is quiet and plain, yet extremely earnest. Okabe loves her and gets her a birthday present.

Nagata often visits Hansuke, while Katsuko's aunt Taeko notices a change in Katsuko.

Tatsuya has soured on life. He goes to play shogi with Tanba-san, who makes an unexpected proposal.

With destruction of the settlement looming, the tension comes to a head at the town's farewell party.
