In this episode, the journey goes from Mexico via the Caribbean to the Panama Canal: one of the most important waterways in the world even back then, just over 10 years old. We continue across the Andes by train or ship around the continent to Rio, which was probably the most beautiful port city in the world back then.

The episode traces a journey from Tenerife along the North African coast: a surprising view of the French colonies. It continues through Central and South Africa via the Suez Canal and Palestine to Istanbul.
