Fifteen-year-old Chuck Limbrick finds his mother, Betty, shot to death when he comes home from school. Evidence suggests a robbery, but Kenda suspects something more.

Lt Joe Kenda gets an unexpected tip while investigating the case of 29-year-old Chris Devoy, who was shot to death outside a neighborhood bar.
